Bakestall, Great Calva and Whitewater Dash Falls Circular Walk

7.7 miles (12.4 km)

This circular walk climbs to Bakestall and Great Calva before visiting the Dash Waterfalls in the Lake District.
The walk starts from the parking area east of Bassenthwaite village. You begin following a steady ascent onto Bakestall where the slopes offer wide views across the open expanse of Skiddaw Forest.... From here the walk continues over rough upland ground towards Great Calva, a distinctive heather-covered fell that stands prominently in this remote part of the national park.
The descent from Great Calva leads towards the head of Dash Beck, where the Dash Waterfalls form a long series of attractive cascades running down a narrow valley beneath the flanks of Bowscale Fell. The setting feels isolated and unspoilt, with the sound of the water carrying across the surrounding moorland. The falls are visible from the track that runs alongside the beck, making this section one of the highlights of the circuit.
You can continue your walking by heading south to visit Skiddaw or west to Bassenthwaite Lake.
