Moel Y Golfa Breidden Hills Circular Walk

2.6 miles (4.2 km)

This circular walk climbs to Moel Y Golfa in the Breidden Hills near Welshpool in Powys.
The walk begins following well-used paths up through mixed woodland on the lower slopes. The trees provide shelter early on, with the route gradually gaining height as it leaves the wooded areas behind....
Above the woodland the hill opens out into grassland and more exposed ground, leading up to the summit area. The prominent Moel y Golfa monument stands near the top, marking a clear focal point of the walk and a natural place to pause. The stone memorial is dedicated to two gypsy kings and is a fine viewpoint.
From the upper slopes and summit there are wide views across the surrounding countryside, including the Severn Valley and the hills of Mid Wales and Shropshire. The descent completes the circuit by returning through open hillside and woodland, giving a varied walk with clear changes in scenery. You can continue your walking in the area on the Rodney's Pillar Walk.
