Burntstump Country Park

Explore open grassland, woodland and glade in this country park in Nottingham. In the park you will find peaceful woodland walking trails, an ornamental pond and the Burntstump Inn where you can enjoy refreshments. The pub overlooks the cricket field so it's a nice place to relax on match days.
The Robin Hood Way long distance walking trail runs through the park so there is the option of continuing your day out with a walk through Sherwood Forest. You could follow the trail to Hucknall's Bestwood Country Park where you will find 650 acres of parkland and lakes. Just to the north is Blidworth Woods where there's some nice trails taking you through pine woodland and open heath.
If you head a couple of miles north west along the Robin Hood Way you will soon come to Newstead Abbey. This former Augustinian priory was also home to Lord Byron. The house is surrounded by acres of parkland, woodland, formal gardens and lakes.
Burntstump park is located close to both Nottingham and Mansfied.

Pubs/Cafes

Head east into nearby Oxton and you could visit Ye Olde Bridge Inn for some post walk refreshment. The pub was voted Nottinghamshire's Pub of the Year 2023 in the National Pub and Bar Awards. They serve high quality meals including a delightful country afternoon tea.  Outside there is a large patio area in front of the function room. There is also a splendid 2 acre garden with a children's play area. You can find them at postcode NG25 0SE for your sat navs. They have a car park and are also dog friendly.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

The Papplewick Walk starts from the interesting village which lies just to the west of the park. The worthy village is a conservation area with an ancient church, 18th century cottages and the Grade I listed Papplewick Hall.
Just a mile north of the park you'll find The Papplewick Pumping Station. The attraction is described as 'Britain’s finest Victorian Waterworks' and includes an interesting museum where you can learn all about this Scheduled Ancient Monument. It's located just to the south east of the village on Rigg Lane at postcode NG15 9AJ.
Head a few miles west and you could visit a local historic highlight at Felley Priory. The 15th century house is surrounded by some beautiful gardens with herbaceous borders, splendid topiary and bluebell woodland. The waterside trails at Moorgreen Reservoir and Hucknall's Bestwood Country Park can also be found in this area.

Shady woodland trails.  Part of the former grounds of Sherwood Lodge. The woodland here has been thinned to promote further growth for the remaining trees; much of the cut timer appears to be birch and has been left lying rather than harvested.
