Cwm Prysor Viaduct Walk

9 miles (14.5 km)

This walk visits the Cwm Prysor Viaduct in Gwynedd, North Wales. The route runs along the old Bala and Ffestiniog Railway line taking you across the viaduct where you can enjoy some wonderful views of the surrounding Snowdonia mountains.
You can start the walk at the lay-by near Llyn Tryweryn.... From here you pick up the footpath heading west up to the viaduct. The impressive structure carried trains over the Afon Prysor between 1882 and 1960 when the line closed to passengers.
The route then continue west past Llyn Y Garn and Llyn Hiraethlyn. The grassy paths are pleasant to walk on but can get muddy in wetter months. All along the path you are surrounded by lovely rolling hills and countryside.
The outing can be extended by visiting the expansive Llyn Trawsfynydd which lies just to the west.

Cwm Prysor Viaduct
Cwm Prysor Viaduct, Gwynedd. The Great Western Railway's single line from Bala Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog passed through magnificent scenery. At the isolated Cwm Prysor Halt it reached the summit of the line at about 1,300ft and then dropped down into the Cwm Prysor, initially on the spectacular narrow Bryncelynog ledge, following the Afon Prysor to Trawsfynydd. This nine-arch viaduct carried the line over the Afon Prysor at the head of the valley and today is near the start of a 5˝ mile courtesy footpath down to Trawsfynydd.
