Esha Ness Lighthouse Circular Walk
2.9 miles (4.7 km)This circular walk explores the area around the Esha Ness Lighthouse on the Northmavine peninsula in the north-west mainland of the Shetland Islands.
The route takes you along the rugged cliffs of the Northmavine peninsula, offering dramatic views over the North Atlantic.... Starting from the small car park near the lighthouse, the path follows the coastline, winding past towering sea stacks and deep inlets carved into the cliffs. Wildflowers and coastal grasses line parts of the trail, while seabirds such as puffins, guillemots, and kittiwakes are often seen nesting on the rocky outcrops.
The lighthouse itself sits on a remote promontory, and the walk allows close views of its distinctive white tower against the backdrop of crashing waves. The route is exposed in places, so weather conditions can make it challenging, but the scenery is striking, with panoramic views across the surrounding ocean and Shetland coastline. The walk is a loop following the coastal path and minor roads which pass a series of pretty lochs.
