Galmpton to Greenway Walk

4 miles (6.5 km)

This walk follows a scenic stretch of the River Dart as you make your way from Galmpton to Greenway House.
From the centre of Galmpton you head south-west towards Galmpton Creek, picking up the footpath that runs close to the shoreline. The opening section gives wide views over the creek’s tidal waters, mudflats and moored boats, with the wooded slopes of the Dart Valley rising in the distance.... At low tide you may see wading birds such as redshank and curlew feeding along the exposed flats.
The route then curves south as the creek meets the River Dart, joining a pleasant riverside path shaded by trees and lined with ferns and wildflowers in summer. This stretch offers fine views across the water to Dittisham and the quiet wooded banks opposite. Cormorants, herons and the occasional seal can sometimes be spotted along this broader section of the river.
Continuing upstream, the path climbs gently through woodland and estate parkland before emerging at the entrance to Greenway House. The final approach reveals glimpses of the historic property through the trees, with the house best known as Agatha Christie’s beloved holiday home overlooking the River Dart. Its elegant white facade and landscaped grounds provide a fitting end point to the walk, adding a touch of literary history to the scenic journey from Galmpton.
