Glamorganshire Canal

2 miles (3 km)

This walk takes you along the old Glamorganshire Canal in Cardiff. The canal forms part of a local nature reserve in Whitchurch, on the north western fringes of the city.
You can start the walk from the car park at the adjacent Forest Farm Country Park. Head east from here to pick up the public footpaths along the canal. On the way you can look out for birdlife including kingfishers, herons and the rare Eurasian bittern. There's also the old locks and other relics of the once important waterway.
The area also includes peaceful woodland trails and more waterside paths along the Melingriffith Feeder.
