Thatchers Rock, Anstey Cove and Hopes Nose Walk
3.7 miles (6 km)This circular walk explores the coastal headland of Hope’s Nose in Torquay. The route also visits two other local highlights at Thatchers Point and Anstey Cove.
From the car parking area you follow a clear path out towards the narrow peninsula of Hope’s Nose, where the limestone slopes drop steeply to the sea and give wide views across Tor Bay.... The headland is known for its rugged shoreline, small coves and exposed rocks, with the geology forming part of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.
Continuing along the coastline you can look for common coastal birds including fulmar, shag and cormorant, which often rest on the offshore rocks. In summer the grassy slopes can hold a range of wildflowers and attract butterflies such as the common blue and meadow brown.
The route then heads towards Thatchers Point with views to Thatchers Rock. The prominent offshore stack is another good photo opportunity on the walk. From here you continue around the cliffs to reach Anstey Cove, a sheltered inlet with clear water and wooded slopes rising above the beach. The area is home to species such as grey seals, which are sometimes seen offshore, while the surrounding trees support common woodland birds including great tits and robins.
To continue your walking in the area you could pick up the Torquay to Babbacombe Walk.
