Newburgh River Walk

3.1 miles (5 km)

This easy riverside walk follows the broad estuary of the River Tay, tracing one of the early stretches of the Fife Coastal Path. Along the way, you’ll pass the remains of historic berthing points once used by fishing boats and small cargo vessels that served the town’s harbour....
The route later turns inland, following an old right of way that loops back behind the town, offering a pleasant mix of estuary scenery and gentle countryside.
Newburgh itself is an appealing small town with a varied collection of old buildings lining its main street. It occupies a scenic position on the south bank of the Tay, facing the reed-covered Mugdrum Island, which forms part of a wildlife-rich section of the river. The waters beside the town are still navigable, and you may see small boats passing through the channel. To the south, the land rises steeply into the eastern edge of the Ochil Hills, providing fine backdrops and a sense of shelter along this tranquil stretch of the river.
You can continue your walking on the Fife Coastal Path and the Tayport to Newburgh Walk. The lovey Lindores Loch is also nearby.
