Rothesay to Port Bannatyne Walk

2.2 miles (3.5 km)

This linear walk takes you from Rothesay to Port Bannatyne on the Isle of Bute.
The route follows the pavement on the coastal road so there are fine coastal views throughout. The road is also usually quiet too, despite being an A road.
Starting near the harbour in Rothesay, the route heads north along the coast, passing attractive seafront villas and gardens with views across Rothesay Bay.... As you leave the town, the scenery opens out with uninterrupted views over the Kyles of Bute and the hills of Cowal on the mainland beyond. The calm waters of the Firth of Clyde are often dotted with yachts and fishing boats, and you may spot seabirds such as oystercatchers and gulls feeding along the shoreline.
The walk continues along the gently undulating coastal road, with grassy verges and occasional benches where you can stop and enjoy the outlook. Approaching Port Bannatyne, you’ll pass the small marina and the sheltered bay, often lively with moored sailing boats. The walk finishes in the centre of the village, where there are a few cafés and pubs to relax before returning to Rothesay by bus or on foot.
You can continue your walking in the area on the circular Rothesay to Ettrick Bay Walk.
