Skelbo Forest Walk

The Skelbo Wood Sculpture Trail is a short circular walk near Dornoch in the Highlands of Scotland. The trail runs through a peaceful mixed woodland overlooking the Dornoch Firth, with a series of ...carved wooden sculptures placed along the route. These artworks, created by local artists, depict local wildlife and figures inspired by Highland folklore, adding an imaginative touch to the natural surroundings.
The waymarked path follows forest tracks and grassy trails beneath tall pines and birch trees, with occasional clearings offering glimpses across the firth towards Embo and the distant hills. The route is mostly level, making it suitable for families and those seeking a gentle woodland stroll. In spring and summer, the woods are rich with birdsong and wildflowers, while autumn brings colourful foliage across the canopy.
Benches and picnic spots along the trail provide opportunities to pause and enjoy the calm of the forest, while the sculptures add an element of discovery throughout the walk. The nearby village of Dornoch, a few miles to the south, makes a good base for visiting the trail and exploring the surrounding coastline. Loch Fleet and Skelbo Castle can also be found just to the north east.
