St Pierres Woods Walk
2.2 miles (3.5 km)This circular walk explores St Pierre's Woods near Chepstow in Monmouthshire.
The woods form part of a long-established area of mixed broadleaf and conifer woodland that sits just west of the River Wye, giving the walk a sheltered and enclosed character for much of the route. Well-defined forest paths lead you through stands of oak, beech and fir, with the woodland floor often covered in ferns and mosses that add to the calm, green setting....
As you follow the trails deeper into the woods, the route passes through areas of mature trees interspersed with more open clearings where glimpses of the surrounding hills briefly appear. Wildlife is common here, with woodland birds and occasional deer often seen moving quietly between the trees. The paths are generally steady underfoot, making it an accessible circuit while still offering enough variety to keep the route engaging.
The return section loops back through quieter parts of the forest, following a mixture of straight forestry tracks and narrower winding paths. These stretches provide a peaceful finish as you head back towards the starting point, with the tall tree canopy and gently shifting light creating a distinctive woodland atmosphere throughout the final part of the walk.
