Taf Fechan Forest
Enjoy a series of beautiful waterfalls and delightful woodland trails on this walk in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The walk begins at the Taf Fechan Forest car park near the northern end of Pentwyn Reservoir. You then head to Lower and Upper Neuadd Reservoirs on peaceful woodland trails. You'll pass along the Taf Fechan River which is dotted with a number of picturesque waterfalls. The trail then passes along the lovely Lower and Upper Neuadd Reservoirs with the imposing Pen Y Fan making a wonderful backdrop. The route returns to the car park on alternative woodland trails.
The whole of this route is designed for walkers but the eastern leg takes place on a super track which is suitable for walkers and cyclists.
The route can be extended by following the Taff Trail to the nearby Blaen y Glyn Waterfalls.
The Pen y Fan Horseshoe Walk also starts from the car park in the forest and visits the Upper and Lower Neuadd Reservoirs, Corn Du and the Cribyn.

Pubs/Cafes
The excellent Old Barn Tea Room is located right next to the forest. It's a great place to enjoy a ploughmans lunch or a delicious cream tea after your exercise. The tea room is in a lovely spot with a delightful garden area where you can relax if the weather is fine. You can find it just to the south of the car park at postcode CF48 2UT for your sat navs.
Dog Walking
The woodland tracks and trails are ideal for dog walking so you'll probably see other owners on a fine day. The Old Barn Tea Room mentioned above is also dog friendly.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Head south of the forest and you can visit Pentwyn Reservoir and Pontsticill Reservoir. There's more nice woodland trails here alongside this large body of water.
You could also try the Merthyr Tydfil Walk which visits the River Taff and the
Grade I listed Cyfarthfa Castle and gardens.
Just to the west is the Garwnant Forest. There's an excellent visitor centre here with details of all the waymarked walking and mountain biking trails you can find in the forest. There's also a nice circular trail around the adjacent Llwyn-on Reservoir.

Pond in the Taf Fechan forest. One of those nice, quiet spots. Close to the road and at the end of a boardwalk. Fantastic for dragonflies and damselflies.
