Welsh 3000s Walk
28.9 miles (46.5 km)The Welsh 3000s Challenge links fifteen mountains over 3,000 feet in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, spanning the Snowdon Massif, the Glyderau, and the Carneddau. It is a demanding route with steep ascents, descents, and exposed sections, suitable only for experienced and well-prepared hikers....
The route begins at the Pen-y-Pass car park and ascends Crib Goch, a sharp ridge requiring a grade 1 scramble, before continuing to Garnedd Ugain and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). From Snowdon’s summit, walkers descend to Nant Peris and climb Elidir Fawr, then follow the ridge to Foel Goch, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. The route continues south to Tryfan, a notable and challenging peak.
After descending into the Ogwen Valley, the path climbs again to Pen yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Dafydd, and Carnedd Llewelyn, before heading over several smaller summits, including Foel Fras, and finally descending towards Llanfairfechan or Abergwyngregyn.
The full route can be tackled in one push, often within 24 hours, or split across several days. It demands excellent fitness, navigation skills, and suitable mountain gear, as conditions in Eryri can change rapidly.
