Lon Las Ogwen

10.81 miles (17.4 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This lovely cycle route runs from the coast at Bangor to Llyn Ogwen in the Snowdonia National Park.
The route runs for about 11 miles through the valley of Afon Cegin with some breathtaking views to enjoy along the way.
Most of the route is traffic free on the old railway paths so is suitable for walkers too.
The route uses parts of National Cycle Route 5 and National Cycle Route 82 so there is scope for extending your ride along one of these signed trails.
You start off on the Menai Strait at Porth Penrhyn, just east Bangor. You then head south toward Tregarth and the Penrhyn Quarry at Bethesda. The historic quarries are a great place to explore with some wonderful views from the high points, eye catching steep cliff faces and a series of unusually coloured lakes.
The final stage runs through the stunning Nant Ffrancon to the beautiful Llyn Ogwen where you can enjoy fine views of the imposing Tryfan. There's also some fine lakeside trails and a waterfall to see here.

Pubs/Cafes

At the end of the route you could enjoy some post exercise rest and refreshment at The Ogwen Snack Bar. The cafe is located near the western end of the lake and open seven days per week for most of the year – opening only at weekends during the winter months. The popular snack bar can trace its history back to the early 1900’s when it was precariously perched on rocks at the head of the waterfall from which it takes its name.  Known throughout the world it has its place in the mountaineering history in this part of Snowdonia and has been run by the same family since 1953. It moved to its current location over forty years ago to the newer premises incorporating Snowdonia National Park warden office and public toilets. It sells a range of drinks, snacks, pasties, paninis and locally baked cakes. There's an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your food with fine views of the surrounding mountains. You can find the snack bar between Llyn Ogwen and Llyn Idwal at postcode of LL57 3LZ for your sat navs.
