Bosherston to Barafundle Bay Walk

6.34 miles (10.2 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap A walk on the Stackpole Estate taking you from the village of Bosherston to the beautiful Barafundle Bay. The route then takes you to the nearby St Govan's Chapel. If you just want to walk to the bay and back it's about a 5 mile round trip. The paths are fairly flat though there are some small climbs on the way.
The walk starts from the car park in Bosherston and follows a trail along the lovely Lily Pools to North Hill. The route continues to Broad Haven where there are sand dunes and a beach. You then head east past Church Rock, Saddle Point and Raming Hole before coming to Stackpole Head. From here you head north west to Barafundle Bay where there is a beautiful beach, considered one of the best in the country.
The walk then heads west across Stackpole Warren before heading up to St Govan's Head and the chapel. You can then climb down to the 6th century chapel where there is a window with fine views out to sea. The route then follows a country lane north back to Bosherston and the car park.

Pubs/Cafes

Back in Bosherston head to the St. Govan's Country Inn for some post walk refreshments. The classic village pub has a cosy interior with exposed beams, horse brasses and a large stone fireplace with log burner. There also a few tables outside if the weather is good. They do fine home cooked food and have a good selection of ales too. You can find them at postcode SA71 5DN for your sat navs.

Dog Walking

The coastal paths and beaches make for a fine dog walk. St. Govan's Country Inn mentioned above is also dog friendly.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

If you head east along the coast path you could pay a visit to Manorbier Castle. The historic Norman castle has some lovely gardens to explore. You can also pick up the Manorbier to Freshwater East Walk here.
Head west and you can visit Freshwater West where there's a lovely beach with sand dunes and rock pools. There's also a fine circular walk around Angle Bay and the village of Angle starting from here.

Barafundle Beach. Arguably amongst the best beaches anywhere in Britain, this strip of soft golden sand benefits from being a fairly stiff half-mile walk from the nearest road. Even on a glorious July day it is far from crowded. In 2004 the Times "Travel" magazine even selected Barafundle Bay as one of the twelve best beaches in the world.
