The lake lies within the landscaped grounds of Arundel Park, an historic parkland landscape associated with Arundel Castle and the Dukes of Norfolk. Mature trees line much of the shoreline, while open sections provide views across the water towards the surrounding downs and woodland. The tranquil setting gives the walk a distinctly rural feel despite its proximity to the town centre.
Swanbourne Lake is well known for its birdlife, with swans, ducks, geese and other waterfowl commonly seen on the water throughout the year. The surrounding grassland, woodland and reed-fringed margins also support a variety of smaller birds and other wildlife. The level paths and attractive lakeside scenery make this one of the most popular short walks in Arundel, combining parkland, wildlife and views of the surrounding South Downs landscape.
