Teigngrace and Jetty Marsh Walk
5 miles (8 km)This circular walk visits the hamlet of Teigngrace and the Jetty Marsh Nature Reserve in Newton Abbot.
The trail uses part of the Stover Canal Walk and the waymarked Templer Way to explore the area.
From Newton Abbot the route follows easy paths towards Jetty Marsh, where the reedbeds, ponds and wet meadow create a quiet pocket of habitat close to the town.... Moorhens and mallards are often seen on the water, while the surrounding scrub can hold warblers in spring and summer. Dragonflies and damselflies are also common around the wetter sections in warmer months.
The path then continues alongside the historic Stover Canal. This section offers a level and peaceful stretch beside the water, with views of the canal banks, scattered woodland and occasional old industrial features linked to its 18th-century granite-transporting past. The hedgerows and fields here often support robins, blackbirds and tits, while the canal margins may attract grey wagtails and herons.
Reaching Teigngrace, the route enters a small rural hamlet surrounded by farmland and low-lying meadows.
You could extend the walk by visiting Stover Country Park which lies just to the north of Teigngrace.
