Benarty Hill Walk From Vane Farm RSPB Reserve
4.3 miles (7 km)This walk climbs to Benarty Hill from the RSPB's Vane Farm Nature Reserve in
Perth and Kinross. There's a car park at the reserve visitor centre where you can start the walk.
The route climbs through the reserve towards Benarty Hill, taking in panoramic views across the loch and the surrounding Kinross countryside.... The lower slopes are rich in wildlife, with wetlands and reedbeds attracting a variety of waders, ducks, and geese, while the higher ground opens up to heather moorland and scattered Scots pines.
As the path climbs, the views expand dramatically, taking in the full sweep of Loch Leven with Bishop Hill rising on the far side and the island of St Serf’s clearly visible below. The summit of Benarty Hill, marked by a trig point, offers one of the finest vantage points in the area, with long views east towards Fife and west across the Lomond Hills. On a clear day, the distant Ochils can also be seen.
The return route passes over Vane Hill, providing another fine outlook across the loch and the RSPB reserve. The descent leads back through woodland and open slopes, with benches along the way offering quiet spots to rest and take in the scenery before returning to the visitor centre and café at the base.
To continue your walking head south to visit the lovely Lochore Meadows Country Park or climb to another wonderful viewpoint at Bishop Hill from Scotlandwell village.
