This walk visits Lough Funshinagh in County Roscommon. The lake is located just west of Lough Ree near the town of Athlone.
On the northern and eastern side of the lake there are some quiet country lanes where you can enjoy a peaceful walk or cycle.... From here there are some fine views over the pretty lake to the surrounding countryside.
The lake is great for bird watching too so keep your eyes peeled for species including Shoveler, Teal, Wigeon, Mallard, White-fronted Goose, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Whooper Swan, Coot, Curlew, Golden Plover, Black-necked Grebe and Lapwing.
You can continue your lakeside walking in the area on the Lough Ree Park Walking Trail.
