Clifford Chambers and Preston on Stour Walk
4.4 miles (7.1 km)This circular walk explores the countryside around the Warwickshire villages of Clifford Chambers and Preston on Stour.
The villages are located just south of Stratford Upon Avon and include some pleasant country trails and riverside paths along the River Stour.
From Clifford Chambers the route leads you out past meadowland and small arable fields, following well-marked footpaths that give wide views across the gentle Stour Valley. The village itself is a peaceful spot with traditional stone buildings and a rural atmosphere that contrasts with the busier streets of nearby Stratford.
The path then heads south towards Preston on Stour, a compact estate village with neat cottages, tree-lined lanes and a quiet, timeless feel.... Approaching the village, the River Stour becomes a more regular companion, with sections of the trail running close to the banks. Here you’ll often see ducks, herons and occasional wagtails feeding in the shallows, while the surrounding hedgerows provide habitat for songbirds.
The final stretch returns through open farmland and pockets of woodland, offering glimpses back towards both villages and the rolling countryside that links them. It is an easy, scenic route throughout, combining river views, wildlife and the charm of two small Warwickshire settlements.
You can continue your walking in the area by pickup the Stratford Upon Avon River Walk and the Avon Walkway to the north.
