Moelfre to Red Wharf Bay Walk

5.2 miles (8.4 km)

This walk follows a section of the Anglesey Coast Path from Moelfre to Red Wharf Bay.
The route runs for just over 5 miles, following the waymarked path south along the eastern coast of the island. On the way you will pass the lovely beach at Traeth Bychan and the pretty coastal village of Benllech before coming to the expansive beach at Red Wharf Bay....
Starting from the harbour village of Moelfre, the route quickly joins open clifftop paths with views across the Irish Sea and back towards the village. The path follows low grassy cliffs and rocky shoreline with frequent coastal viewpoints. It then descends towards Traeth Bychan, a sheltered sandy bay backed by cliffs and coastal grassland, where the path runs close to the beach before climbing gently back onto higher ground.
Beyond Traeth Bychan the route continues south towards Benllech, passing more open cliff sections and quieter coves before reaching the village and its wide sandy beach. After Benllech, the path heads inland briefly across low-lying ground and salt marsh as it approaches Red Wharf Bay, crossing small bridges and tidal channels. The walk finishes beside the broad tidal sands of Red Wharf Bay, an extensive estuary-backed beach with wide open views across the bay and surrounding farmland.
