Pontburn Woods Walk

This walk explores the Pontburn Woods nature reserve in Tyne and Wear.
The walk follows easy woodland paths through a quiet, steep-sided valley. The route stays close to the Pont Burn for much of the walk, with the sound of flowing water adding to the sense of seclusion....
One of the main features is the viaduct that crosses high above the valley, visible from several points along the trail and giving a strong contrast between the natural woodland and historic railway engineering. Below it, the Pont Burn forms a series of small cascades and rocky channels as it descends through the woods. Look out for birdlife including nuthatches as you make your way along the paths.
