White Castle Walk

2.2 miles (3.5 km)

This circular walk uses sections of the Offa's Dyke Path and the Three Castles Walk to explore the countryside around White Castle near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire.
The route follows quiet lanes and field paths through gently rolling farmland, linking sections of the Offa’s Dyke Path and the Three Castles Walk. It passes through a patchwork of meadows and hedgerows rich in birdlife, with far-reaching views towards the Black Mountains and the Skirrid.... You'll also pass close to the River Trothy which runs through the area.
A highlight of the walk is White Castle itself, one of the trio of Norman fortresses that also includes Skenfrith and Grosmont. The castle’s well-preserved walls, towers, and moat date from the twelfth century and offer an atmospheric glimpse into the area’s medieval history.
The return route winds back through peaceful countryside, passing small farms and wooded slopes before rejoining the starting point. It’s a scenic and varied circuit combining heritage, rural charm, and fine views typical of Monmouthshire’s border landscapes.
