Seaham to Crimdon Walk

10.4 miles (16.7 km)

This coastal walk takes you along a section of the Durham Coastal Footpath from Seaham to Crimdon.
The walk heads south from Seaham passing Horden, Peterlee and Blackhall Rocks before arriving at Crimdon.
It follows a striking stretch of the Durham Heritage Coast, known for restored coastal denes, grassland, and rugged clifftops overlooking the North Sea.... The path gives regular views down to broad beaches and wave-cut platforms below, with wildlife often present along the cliffs and around the nature-rich coastal slopes.
The route also passes areas once dominated by coal mining and heavy industry, now transformed into scenic open spaces and protected habitats. The contrast between the coastline’s industrial past and its current natural character adds interest along the way, with heritage features and information panels marking points of local significance.
On approaching Crimdon the landscape softens, with dunes and beaches forming the approach to Crimdon Dene, a well-known spot for birdlife, including little terns in the breeding season. Transport links at each end make this a convenient and rewarding linear outing on one of County Durham’s most scenic shoreline sections.
