Acton Bridge Canal Walk

This walk takes you along a section of the Trent and Mersey Canal from the village of Acton Bridge to Anderton and Marbury Country Park. The route runs for about 5 miles, following the towpath east from Bartington to the Anderton Boat Lift before finishing in Marbury Park where you can visit the nearby Budworth Mere if you have time.
The pleasant waterside walk explores one of the most interesting sections of the Trent and Mersey Canal, combining peaceful Cheshire countryside with one of the country's most impressive canal engineering landmarks.... The route follows the towpath through a landscape of fields, woodland and quiet waterways, with views across the surrounding Cheshire plain.
The highlight of the walk is the Anderton Boat Lift, a remarkable Victorian structure often described as the "Cathedral of the Canals". Opened in 1875, the lift raises boats between the Trent and Mersey Canal and the River Weaver below, and remains one of Britain's finest examples of canal engineering. The visitor centre and surrounding paths provide excellent views of this unique attraction.
The walk finishes at Marbury Country Park, a popular green space with woodland trails, open parkland and views across the Cheshire countryside. The nearby Budworth Mere is an important nature reserve and a great place for spotting water birds, including ducks, geese and herons. The park also offers a pleasant place to extend the walk or relax after exploring the canal.
