This circular walk from Hathersage visits Stanage Edge and Bamford Edge.
This is a spectacular walk in the Peak District National Park, taking in two of the area's most famous gritstone edges. Both viewpoints offer superb panoramas across the surrounding moorland, valleys and reservoirs, with the rugged rock formations providing a dramatic contrast to the open landscape.
Stanage Edge is one of the Peak District's best-known landmarks, stretching for several miles above the Hope Valley.... Its distinctive gritstone escarpment has long been popular with walkers and climbers, while the elevated position provides extensive views towards Hathersage, the Derwent Valley and the moors beyond.
Bamford Edge provides another excellent viewpoint, with its rocky outcrops overlooking the Upper Derwent Valley and Ladybower Reservoir. On a clear day there are far-reaching views across the Dark Peak, while the gritstone formations themselves make an impressive feature of the landscape.
The walk begins and ends in Hathersage, a popular Peak District village surrounded by dramatic countryside. The village has a strong literary connection with Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, while its cafés, pubs and shops make it a convenient base for exploring this spectacular part of the Peak District.
