White Coppice to Great Hill Walk
3.6 miles (5.8 km)This walk takes you from the delightful Lancashire hamlet of White Coppice to Great Hill, a rewarding little summit in the West Pennine Moors. We parked next to the cricket ground (postcode: PR6 9DE) and then headed east, following the route for about 2 miles towards the 381 metre high summit.
We really enjoyed the climb up to Great Hill, with the route gradually opening out as we climbed away from White Coppice.... The views across the surrounding Lancashire countryside get better as you gain height, and the summit makes a great spot to stop and take in the scenery. On a clear day there are excellent views across the West Pennine Moors towards Winter Hill and Rivington Pike.
After enjoying the views from Great Hill, we made our way back towards White Coppice. It was a relatively short walk but still gave us a good taste of the open moorland around the village, with plenty of attractive countryside along the way.
When we got back to the village, we stopped for a bite to eat at Boxco Forest.
They've got an excellent setup here. It's actually a children's nursery during the week and becomes a pop-up cafe at weekends, with some of the money going back into the cafe. We really enjoyed the ice creams and smoothies, and it's dog friendly too, making it a great place to finish the walk.
