Winsford Flashes Walk

This walk takes you to the Winsford Flashes in the Cheshire town of Winsford. You can start the walk from Winsford Marina, just to the south of the town.... Here you'll find a waterside picnic area, a car park and a shared walking and cycling path heading south along Bottom Flash to Rilshaw Meadows.
The flashes are a series of large meres formed by subsidence from salt mining beneath the town, with Bottom Flash and Top Flash creating an attractive waterside landscape surrounded by meadows and woodland. The route follows the shore of the flashes, with views across the open water and opportunities to spot a variety of water birds. At Rilshaw Meadows you can enjoy the views back across the flashes before returning along the waterside path to the marina. The combination of open water, meadows and woodland makes this a pleasant short walk, while the flashes themselves provide an interesting reminder of Winsford's long history of salt mining.
You can continue your waterside walking in the area along the Weaver Way.

Bottom Flash, Winsford. The southerly most point of navigation of the 'Weaver Navigation', (the canalised section of the river Weaver). From here boats can access the river Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, although there is a height limitation under the bridges in Winsford.
