Wolf Way Cycle Route

248.5 miles (400 km)

The Wolf Way is a fantastic 248-mile circular cycle route exploring the very best of Suffolk, from its historic market towns and peaceful villages to beautiful heathland, woodland and the spectacular coastline.
Starting and finishing in Bury St Edmunds, this long-distance adventure follows a varied mix of bridleways, byways, gravel tracks, cycle paths and quiet country lanes, making it an excellent choice for gravel riding and multi-day bikepacking.
There is plenty to discover along the way, including the medieval streets and timber-framed buildings of Lavenham, the historic town of Sudbury and the waterfront at Ipswich. The route then heads towards the Suffolk coast, taking in the atmospheric woodland of Rendlesham Forest, the pretty seaside villages of Thorpeness and Southwold, and the fascinating landscape around Dunwich and Minsmere.... At Lowestoft, you can visit Ness Point, the most easterly point in Britain, before turning inland through the peaceful Waveney Valley and Suffolk's wide-open countryside.
The northern section includes some wonderful riding through Breckland, with sandy tracks, open heathland and wildlife-rich landscapes around Knettishall Heath and Cavenham Heath. There are also plenty of opportunities to stop in traditional villages and historic towns along the way. Although Suffolk is relatively flat, the route has a few sandy and more challenging off-road sections, so a gravel or adventure bike is recommended.
Named after the legendary wolf said to have guarded the head of St Edmund, the Wolf Way is a memorable journey through a county rich in history, wildlife and beautiful scenery. With its combination of quiet lanes, off-road trails, coastal views and charming places to explore, it offers a rewarding introduction to multi-day cycling adventures in East Anglia.
