Cawsand to Rame Head Walk
2.9 miles (4.6 km)This walk takes you from Cawsand to Rame Head. It's about a 3 mile walk along the South West Coast Path from the Cawsand car park to the headland.
The route explores the beautiful Rame Peninsula, often described as Cornwall's "forgotten corner" because of its unspoilt coastline, quiet villages and relatively low visitor numbers compared with other parts of the county.... Leaving Cawsand, the path passes above the sheltered beaches of Cawsand Bay and Kingsand before climbing onto the grassy slopes overlooking Plymouth Sound.
As the walk approaches Rame Head there are superb views across Whitsand Bay, Plymouth Sound and the breakwater protecting Plymouth Harbour. The headland is one of the most distinctive landmarks on the south Cornwall coast and is crowned by the medieval St Michael's Chapel, which stands in a dramatic position above the sea. The site has been a place of religious significance for centuries and is thought to have much earlier associations stretching back into prehistory.
The coastal grassland around Rame Head supports a variety of wildflowers and butterflies during the warmer months, while seabirds can often be seen along the cliffs and offshore waters. The combination of historic landmarks, panoramic sea views and striking coastal scenery makes this one of the highlights of the Rame Peninsula and one of the finest short walks in south-east Cornwall.
