Chimney Meadows Walk

This walk explores the Chimney Meadows National Nature Reserve near Abingdon and Faringdon in Oxfordshire.
The reserve lies on the ancient Thames floodplain and is made up of lowland meadows, pasture and wetlands, with the Thames Path running through the reserve beside the river.
Chimney Meadows is particularly noted for its rich wildflower meadows and importance for birds, with around 100 species recorded each year.... Curlew, lapwing, snipe and other wading and wetland birds can be seen, while the seasonal flooding creates ponds, ditches and shallow wetlands that provide valuable feeding areas for wildlife.
The reserve also includes Duxford Old River, an ancient meander of the River Thames which has been restored as part of a wetland conservation project. Bird hides and a Thames observation platform provide good opportunities to enjoy the wildlife and peaceful riverside setting.
