Chorley Three Peaks

11.7 miles (18.9 km)

This circular walk near Chorley scales the three prominent peaks of Rivington Moor: Great Hill, Winter Hill and Rivington Pike.
The journey begins at the White Coppice Cricket Club—where parking is available on non-match days—and leads first to the summit of Great Hill, home to a sheltered bench perfect for admiring the sweeping countryside.... From there, the route follows the broad ridge of Spitler’s Edge, eventually descending to cross a road near an alternative trailhead parking area. The ascent of Winter Hill starts gradually but becomes increasingly rugged near the top, requiring a scramble over loose stone and rocky terrain. The summit is marked by massive television masts and a memorial to a 1958 air disaster. Your descent takes you over Crooked Edge Hill, also known as "Two Lads" after its twin hilltop cairns, before you follow a hillside lane toward Rivington Pike. This third peak is crowned by a distinctive 18th-century stone tower.
After descending a stone staircase to Georges Lane, you enter the Rivington Terraced Gardens. This atmospheric hillside estate, formerly owned by Lord Leverhulme, invites exploration of its Japanese Lake, Dovecote Tower, and man-made ravine. A nearby cafe and the historic Rivington Hall—a Grade II listed building with 15th-century origins—provide further points of interest. The final leg of the hike winds through woodland and past Brere’s Meadow, following quiet roads to Yarrow Reservoir. The trail then cuts across farmland near Manor House Farm and skirts the wooded banks of Anglezarke Reservoir, finishing with a scenic stroll along "The Goit" stream back to White Coppice.
