Cranleigh Railway Line Walk

3.2 miles (5.2 km)

This walk follows the old Cranleigh Line Railway from Cranleigh to the Vachery Pond. The trail is part of the Downs Link which runs from Guildford to St Martha's Hill.
The route provides an easy, traffic-free walk through a varied landscape of woodland, fields and quiet rural countryside on the edge of the Surrey Hills.... The former railway corridor now forms a valuable green route for walkers, cyclists and wildlife, with mature trees and hedgerows lining much of the trail.
One of the highlights is Vachery Pond, a picturesque stretch of water surrounded by woodland and open countryside. The pond and its margins attract a variety of birds and other wildlife, while the peaceful setting provides a pleasant contrast to nearby towns and villages. The surrounding landscape is typical of the Surrey Weald, with gently rolling farmland, ancient woodland and attractive country lanes.
The walk also offers an insight into the area's railway heritage. The Cranleigh Line once linked Guildford with Horsham and played an important role in connecting rural communities across Surrey and Sussex. Today, the former trackbed has been transformed into a popular recreational route, combining local history with attractive countryside scenery.
