Dromore Woods is a nature reserve managed for its mix of limestone woodland, wet woodland and lakeshore habitats. Ash, oak and hazel are common along the paths, with seasonal displays of bluebells and other woodland flowers in spring. The reserve supports a range of wildlife, including woodland birds and bats, and the lake margins provide habitat for waterfowl and other wetland species.
Dromore Castle, built in the 19th century in a Gothic Revival style, stands prominently above the lake and remains a focal point of the estate landscape. Although roofless, its towers and walls are largely intact and are framed by mature trees when viewed from the surrounding trails. From open sections of shoreline, there are broad views across Dromore Lough, a shallow limestone lake with reedbeds and wooded edges that add to the quiet, enclosed character of the area.
You can continue your walking on the Ennis River Fergus Walk.
