Fishguard to Newport Coastal Walk

The walk follows a lovely section of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Fishguard to Newport Pembrokeshire via Dinas Head. It runs for about 12 miles along a challenging section of the waymarked trails with lovely beaches, interesting geological rocks formations and fantastic cliff tops sea views.
Starting from Fishguard, the route heads east along the clifftops, offering dramatic views across Fishguard Bay and the Irish Sea.... This stretch of the coastline is geologically significant, featuring dramatic rock formations and steep gradients that test a hiker's endurance. The path is well-marked but exposed to the elements, requiring sturdy footwear and preparation for sudden weather changes common in this part of West Wales.
A primary feature of this trek is Dinas Island, which is technically a peninsula separated from the mainland by a narrow valley. The route around the perimeter of the island reaches some of the highest points on the entire coast path, particularly at Dinas Head, which stands at roughly 142 metres above sea level. This elevated position provides a vantage point for spotting grey seals in the coves below and Atlantic grey seals which frequently pup on the secluded beaches during the autumn. The cliffs also serve as a vital nesting ground for various seabirds, including razorbills, guillemots, and fulmars.
As the path continues toward Newport, it passes through the small, sheltered cove of Pwllgwaelod and the pebble beach at Cwm-yr-Eglwys, where the ruins of St Brynach’s Church remain after being destroyed by a storm in 1859. The final leg leads into the Nevern Estuary and the town of Newport, known for its expansive sands at Newport Sands and its historic links to the local maritime trade. The area is also home to a diverse range of birds of prey, with peregrine falcons and choughs often seen patrolling the cliff edges throughout the journey.
