Freshwater East to Barafundle Bay Walk

This walk takes you from Freshwater East to Barafundle Bay along a lovely section of the coast path.
The route runs for 3.5 miles following an undulating cliff top path with fine coastal views throughout.
The stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path offers a moderately challenging walk through some of the most scenic limestone landscapes in the region. Starting from the sweeping sands of Freshwater East, the path climbs steeply onto the clifftop, heading east toward Trewent Point.... From this vantage point, you can look back across the wide bay before the trail winds along the rugged edge of the cliffs, where the Atlantic waves have carved deep fissures and caves into the rock below.
As you continue toward Greenala Point, the terrain becomes more dramatic, passing the remains of an Iron Age promontory fort. The earthworks of this ancient site are still visible, perched on a defensive headland that provides expansive views across the Bristol Channel. The path then undulates through maritime grassland and coastal heath, where the environment is rich with wildlife. You are likely to spot choughs soaring on the thermal currents or grey seals hauled out on the secluded rocky ledges that are inaccessible from the land.
Approaching Stackpole Quay, the path descends into a small, picturesque stone harbour that was once used for exporting limestone. After passing the quay and its nearby café, you climb another set of stone steps to regain the clifftops for the final leg of the journey. The trail leads through a historic stone archway, which serves as a natural frame for the first view of Barafundle Bay. The walk concludes with a descent down a flight of steps onto the pristine, golden sands of the bay, which is frequently cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
