Hawes to Bainbridge Walk

The Hawes to Bainbridge walk is a lovely 7-mile journey through the heart of Wensleydale, taking us through quiet Dales countryside, attractive villages and along a particularly scenic stretch of the River Ure. It combines some of the classic features of the Yorkshire Dales, from stone-walled pastures and rolling hills to the characterful villages of Askrigg and Bainbridge. We started from the main car park next to the visitor centre in Hawes and headed north towards Sedbusk, soon leaving the town behind as we made our way into the surrounding countryside.... From Sedbusk we continued east towards Litherskew and across Cote Pasture, enjoying the open views across Wensleydale as we followed the route towards Skellgill Lane. We then continued along Skellgill Lane towards Askrigg, one of the best-known villages in Wensleydale. The village has an attractive collection of traditional stone buildings and is particularly enjoyable to walk through, with plenty of opportunities to stop and look around. From Askrigg we turned west and followed the River Ure towards Bainbridge. This was a particularly pleasant section of the walk, with the river providing a lovely backdrop as we passed through green meadows and enjoyed the peaceful scenery of the valley. We finished in Bainbridge, a historic village with attractive stone buildings, a village green and a lovely setting beside the River Ure. Overall, this is a varied walk that links two of Wensleydale's most popular villages while taking in some beautiful countryside along the way.
