Hawes to Askrigg Walk

This walk takes you between the Yorkshire Dales villages of Hawes and Askrigg. The route runs for 5.5 miles, following local footpaths and a section of the Herriot Way long distance trail.... Heading east you will pass Sedbusk and Skell Gill before arriving in Askrigg.
The walk explores the heart of Wensleydale, crossing some of the finest limestone countryside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The route combines peaceful field paths, traditional dry stone walls and open pasture with fine views across the dale towards the surrounding fells, making it one of the area's most rewarding village-to-village walks.
Leaving Hawes, the route climbs gently towards Sedbusk, a small hilltop village with far-reaching views over Wensleydale. It then continues past Skell Gill through a landscape of flower-rich meadows, traditional stone barns and limestone walls that are characteristic of the Yorkshire Dales. Curlews, lapwings and meadow pipits are often seen in the surrounding fields during the spring and summer months.
The walk finishes in Askrigg, one of the Dales' most picturesque villages. Built from local stone around a spacious market square, Askrigg is well known as the filming location for the fictional village of Darrowby in the original television series All Creatures Great and Small. The village also provides easy access to nearby attractions including Mill Gill Force and a selection of traditional inns, cafés and independent shops.
You could extend the walk by visiting the lovely Semer Water near Askrigg.
