Hunstanton to Snettisham Walk

6.5 miles (10.5 km)

This walk follows the coastal path from Hunstanton to RSPB Snettisham on the Norfolk coast.
The route runs for 6.5 miles along a flat path, passing Heacham on the way.
As you head south from the bustling resort of Hunstanton, the trail follows the sea wall and promenade, offering uninterrupted views across The Wash toward the Lincolnshire coast. Passing through Heacham, the landscape shifts from traditional seaside charm into a more tranquil coastal environment, where the air is scented by the nearby lavender fields during the summer months.... This section of the Norfolk Coast Path is particularly popular for its westward-facing position, making it one of the few places on the east coast where you can enjoy a sunset over the sea. The flat, accessible terrain is perfect for a steady trek, with the sound of the tide and the calling of gulls providing a constant backdrop to the journey.
The walk culminates at the world-renowned RSPB Snettisham nature reserve, a vital sanctuary for migratory birds and coastal wildlife. This area is famous for its spectacular "whirling wader" displays, where tens of thousands of knots and oystercatchers take flight as the tide rises, creating an incredible natural spectacle. The lagoons and saltmarshes also provide a home for avocets, bar-tailed godwits, and marsh harriers, making it a premier destination for birdwatchers and nature photographers alike. Arriving at the reserve provides a peaceful and rewarding conclusion to the 6.5-mile journey, capturing the raw, untamed beauty of the North Norfolk shoreline.
