Knockreer Circular Walk
2.8 miles (4.5 km)This walk explores Knockreer Woodland on the edge of Killarney town within Killarney National Park, following wide gravel paths through former estate parkland associated with Killarney House and Gardens.
The area forms one of the main pedestrian entrances to the national park and provides easy access to a network of level woodland and parkland trails.
The landscape combines open lawns with mature trees including oak, beech and lime, alongside quieter wooded sections where red deer are frequently seen.... The paths pass near Killarney House, a restored historic residence set within landscaped grounds, and continue through the Knockreer estate where the River Deenagh flows through the woodland and widens to form Deenagh Lake.
On the western side of the woods, routes lead towards the shoreline of Lough Leane, the largest of the Killarney lakes. Here, openings in the trees provide views across the water towards wooded islands and the surrounding mountains, adding a lakeside element to what is otherwise a gentle parkland walk. The combination of estate history, accessible paths and proximity to Lough Leane makes this one of the most straightforward and varied short walks in Killarney National Park.
You can continue your walking by heading a short distance south to visit Muckross Lake and Lough Guitane.
