Esknamucky Waterfall Walk
1.2 miles (2 km)This walk explores the Esknamucky Waterfall in Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve near the village of Glengarriff in County Cork.
The reserve forms part of a large area of Atlantic woodland within the wider Glengarriff Harbour landscape, with well-maintained forest paths leading into a sheltered river valley.
The route passes through mixed woodland dominated by oak, birch and holly, with moss-covered rocks, ferns and lichens reflecting the mild, wet climate typical of this part of west Cork.... Streams run through steep-sided sections of the woodland, and the sound of flowing water becomes more prominent as the path approaches the waterfall.
Esknamucky Waterfall is formed where the Esknamucky stream drops over a rocky ledge within a densely wooded gorge. The falls are modest in height but set in an enclosed, scenic location, with a viewing point allowing a clear perspective of the cascade and surrounding vegetation. The area is known for rich plant life and woodland wildlife, including birds associated with wet Atlantic forests.
Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve is recognised for its native woodland habitat and forms part of a Special Area of Conservation. The walk combines shaded forest paths, river scenery and a distinct waterfall feature, providing a short route focused on one of the reserve’s quieter interior valleys.
You can continue your walking in the area on the Barley Lake Glengarriff Walk.
