Boscastle St Nectans Glen Waterfall Walk
1 mile (1.6 km)This walk explores St Nectan's Glen on the Cornish coast near Boscastle and Tintagel.
The glen is a deeply wooded river valley through which the Trevillet River flows on its way to the sea. The route passes beneath a canopy of oak, ash and beech, with moss-covered rocks, ferns and small footbridges contributing to the secluded character of the woodland.... The sheltered valley supports a rich variety of plant life and remains noticeably cooler and more humid than the surrounding countryside.
The highlight of the walk is St Nectan's Kieve, a striking waterfall where the river plunges through a natural hole in the roof of a cave-like chamber before continuing downstream through a narrow gorge. This unusual geological feature is one of the best-known natural landmarks in north Cornwall and has long been associated with local folklore and pilgrimage traditions linked to Saint Nectan.
The surrounding area forms part of a landscape of wooded valleys and rugged coastline between Boscastle and Tintagel. Combined with the dramatic waterfall and ancient woodland setting, the glen provides a distinctive contrast to the exposed cliffs and open moorland more commonly associated with this part of Cornwall.
You can continue your walking in the adjacent Rocky Valley.
