Strangford Lough Delamont Park Loop Walk

3.3 miles (5.3 km)

This circular loop walk explores Delamont Country Park on the south western side of Strangford Lough.
The park includes a number of waymarked walking trails taking you through woodland, parkland and along the lough shore. Here you can enjoy some fabulous views over the lough to the Mourne Mountains.
As a prime location for nature lovers, the park provides access to one of Europe's most significant marine sites, known for its immense biodiversity.... A dedicated bird hide allows for quiet observation of the lough's birdlife, which includes seasonal arrivals like the Pale-bellied Brent Goose in autumn and winter, as well as resident Grey Herons, Little Egrets, and Shelducks. Marine mammals such as common and grey seals are frequently spotted in the surrounding waters, and the park occasionally hosts "Wildlife Discovery" events where visitors can encounter native species like owls.
To continue your walking in the area head south to pick up the Quoile River Walk near Downpatrick. For cyclists there's the Strangford Lough Cycle Route.

The Strangford Stone. Notable landmarks within the grounds include the Strangford Stone, which is the tallest megalith in Ireland at over 10 metres high. This stone was erected to create a landmark and to mark the Millennium. It was quarried from Mourne Granite and erected on 26 June 1999 using the muscle power of 1000 young people.
