Walk From North Landing to Bempton Cliffs

3.3 miles (5.3 km)

This walk takes you from the car park at North Landing to Bempton Cliffs on the Yorkshire coast.
The 3.3 mile journey takes you along the towering white chalk cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast. Starting at the rocky bay of North Landing, you can explore historical smuggler's caves at low tide before ascending to the cliff-top path.... The route heads north through Thornwick Bay, offering vast, stunning views of the North Sea and dramatic rock formations like sea arches and stacks.
As you progress, the scenery transitions into the rugged, high-chalk landscapes of the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve, where the cliffs reach heights of up to 400 feet. Between March and August, this area becomes a bustling "seabird city," home to over half a million birds. You will hear and see massive colonies of Gannets, which are famous for their acrobatic plunge-diving, alongside Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, and Kittiwakes.

The well-maintained footpath includes several dedicated observation decks, such as Jubilee Corner and Bartlett Nab, where RSPB staff are often present to help with bird identification. Beyond the birds, the cliff-top grasslands are often carpeted with wildflowers like red campion, and the open skies may feature hunting Kestrels or Barn Owls. In the water below, keep a sharp eye out for Grey Seals, Harbour Porpoises, and even Bottlenose Dolphins or Minke Whales during the summer months
