Warwick to Leamington Spa Canal Walk

This walk follows the Grand Union Canal Walk from Warwick to Leamington Spa. The route starts from the canalside parking area on the western side of Warwick.... From here you head east through Warwick, crossing the River Avon at Emscote. The route continues through Leamington Spa before finishing at the pretty Newbold Comyn Park on the eastern side of the town.
The first section follows the peaceful canal corridor through Warwick, passing narrowboats, waterside moorings and stretches lined with mature trees. The towpath offers a gentle and mostly level walk, with regular views across the water and opportunities to spot ducks, swans and other canal wildlife.
As you continue, the route reaches the River Avon at Emscote, where the canal crosses the river on an aqueduct. This is one of the highlights of the walk, combining views of the broad river below with the tranquil atmosphere of the canal above.
Beyond Emscote, the walk enters Leamington Spa, where the canal passes close to elegant Georgian and Victorian architecture for which the town is renowned. The waterside setting contrasts beautifully with the formal terraces, crescents and parks that make Leamington Spa one of Warwickshire’s most attractive towns.
The route finishes at the pretty Newbold Comyn Park on the eastern side of the town. This large open space provides a fitting end to the walk, with meadows, woodland, lakes and panoramic views across the surrounding Warwickshire countryside, as well as easy access to Leamington Spa’s cafés, shops and railway station.
The route links with the Warwickshire Centenary Way at various points so you can continue your walking on this long distance path.
