The Whitegate Way is a picturesque six-mile rail trail in Cheshire that follows the route of a former railway line originally built to transport salt from the mines at Winsford. Stretching from the heart of Winsford to Cuddington, the path offers a flat, traffic-free corridor through the countryside that is ideal for cyclists of all abilities. The route is characterised by its smooth surface and gentle gradients, making it particularly popular for families and those looking for a relaxed ride away from the noise of main roads.

Nature has reclaimed much of the old trackbed, and the route is now flanked by a diverse mix of woodland and local wildlife habitats. As you cycle along the trail, you pass through a variety of landscapes including shaded cuttings and open embankments that offer elevated views over the surrounding Cheshire farmland. The Way is also a haven for birdlife and wild flowers, providing a seasonal backdrop that changes from bluebells in the spring to rich autumnal colours later in the year.

This restored Victorian station serves as a convenient stopping point with a car park, toilets, and a popular cafe where cyclists can break for refreshments. The trail also links up with the wider network of paths in the area, including the Delamere Forest tracks and the Weaver Valley, allowing more ambitious cyclists to extend their journey into the neighbouring woodlands and river valleys.
