Aylesbury to Tring Canal Walk

This walk follows a section of the Grand Union Canal Walk from Aylesbury to Tring in Buckinghamshire. The route runs for about 9 miles, following the towpath east along the Aylesbury Arm towards Marsworth Reservoir and the other Tring Reservoirs.... The walk finishes at Tring Station, just east of the town.
This attractive waterside walk combines one of the quieter branches of the Grand Union Canal with an internationally important wetland landscape. The Aylesbury Arm winds through peaceful Buckinghamshire countryside, passing open farmland, woodland and a series of historic bridges before reaching the main line of the Grand Union Canal at Marsworth Junction.
One of the highlights of the walk is the area around Marsworth Reservoir and the nearby Tring Reservoirs. Built in the early nineteenth century to supply water to the canal, the reservoirs are now a renowned nature reserve supporting large numbers of wildfowl, grebes, herons, kingfishers and other wetland birds throughout the year. The adjacent Marsworth flight of locks is one of the most impressive engineering features on this section of the canal.
After joining the main Grand Union Canal, the route continues east through attractive waterside scenery before finishing at Tring Station. The nearby market town of Tring is well worth a short detour, with its historic High Street, independent shops, cafés and the excellent Natural History Museum, while the surrounding Chiltern countryside provides further opportunities for walking.
