Burton Bradstock to West Bexington Walk
2.9 miles (4.7 km)This walk takes you along the South West Coast Path from Burton Bradstock to West Bexington. It's just under 3 miles, heading east from the Burton Beach car park to Burton Mere and the West Bexington Nature Reserve.
This section of the Dorset coast forms part of the Jurassic Coast and offers superb views across Lyme Bay.... Leaving Burton Bradstock, the route passes the expansive shingle beach at Hive Beach before continuing along the open coastline towards West Bexington. The cliffs and foreshore expose rocks dating back around 185 million years, making this one of the most geologically significant stretches of the English coast.
The path follows the edge of Chesil Beach, the remarkable 18-mile shingle barrier that stretches from West Bay to Portland. Inland lies Burton Mere, while the surrounding grassland and farmland support skylarks, meadow pipits and a variety of butterflies during the spring and summer. As the route approaches West Bexington, it passes the wildlife-rich West Bexington Nature Reserve, an important habitat for breeding and migrating birds, dragonflies and wildflowers.
West Bexington is a quiet coastal hamlet overlooking Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon, with magnificent views across the Jurassic Coast.
