Starting from the city of Newry the surfaced trail follows the Newry Ship Canal and Newry River south to Omeath and Carlingford in Ireland. The route follows the trackbed of the historic Dundalk, Newry & Greenore Railway, offering flat mostly off-road terrain with panoramic views of the Mourne Mountains, the Cooley Peninsula, and the lough itself....
On the way you will pass the historic Victoria Lock, the photogenic Carlingford Marina and the 12th century Carlingford castle.
You can continue your exercise on the Carlingford Lough and Slieve Foye Mountain Loop Walk or along the Newry Canal to Portadown.
